SPRING AS SPRUNG! At least for us out here in California! And we have the photos to prove it.

So what’s in this issue?

Thursday April 16th Kathy and I slipped out of the shop about 1:00 PM and headed south to Hollister for a GREAT weekend starting with our OLD friends of almost 30 years, Mike & Bev Corbin. Thursday evening, at dinner Mike talked Kathy (5’2”, F800R) into a seat, as that was not in the plans, and she is SOOOOO Happy she did!

The R1200RT seat came out fantastic, we used “Chocolate Leather” with silver piping. You may think that would not work as the motorcycle looks black but in the sunlight it is a beautiful deep metallic burgundy (BMW name is  Ebony Metallic) click on the first phot to see the finished product.

The whole Corbin experience will be showcased below in photos.

Then Friday afternoon our friend “Flip” came to Corbin's “Wizards Shop” to meet us and we all rode on down to Paso Robles and spent the weekend with the MSTA club (Motorcycle Sport Touring Association).

Kathy and I had great food, rekindled old friendships of 25 years, meet new friends and had a GREAT Saturday ride. The whole MSTA experience is show
cased below in photos.

RKA has two new events, see what they are about, where they are at, on our updated schedule, and there is a short update story below

Richard & Kathy have two motorcycles and a really nice lady’s carbon fiber bicycle for sale.

The photos on the right show why we have them for sale. No cards no special trip to celebrate our 30th year of marriage on Monday the 27th of April.
We just bought some cool stuff.

First a new tandem

Then I got real lucky last month and we purchased a new 2014 R1200RT,

Then Kathy's new bicycle that was ordered 3 months ago came in last week, a new carbon fiber, dual disc brakes, upright riding position, Cannondale bicycle called “The F1 Quick”. and that was our anniversary presents to each other.

Back to business ...RKA is now offering the S-Plug earbud speakers they give you great sound and you can hear outside sounds. All for a reasonable price.

We have a new video post on pairing and the SENA app on our You Tube Page.

For 30 years this job is FULL TIME. Kathy and I have done nothing else … just RKA luggage and communications.

Hi Richard,

Purchased a SMH 10 from you about two years ago and all is working well as it has been used for Bluetooth GPS and BMW radio only and no communication with other riders.

Question:  Will this Sena product sync to a BILT CycleGear unit for communications.  Not able to do and guess it may not?
Please let me know and if it will- what is the trick?

Thanks for all that you do for the motorcycle community.

Best, Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Yes you can but it’s a bad deal sometimes for the SENA and ALL the time for the other guy. You need to have the latest firmware upgrade that has included the “Universal Intercom function”
Then follow the instructions. BUT bottom line is the other guy has intercom to you for driver passenger or bike to bike, but I suspect the BILT will go about 10 feet ;-/
You can have an intercom conversation with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets using the Universal Intercom function. Non-Sena Bluetooth headsets can be connected to the Sena Bluetooth headset if they support the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP). The working distance may differ depending on the performance of Bluetooth headset that it is connected to. In general, it is shorter than normal intercom distance since it uses the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile. The Universal Intercom affects both the phone call connection and the multipoint connection (mostly used for GPS connections for riders). You cannot use a multipoint connection device while you are using the Universal Intercom in case as below.

1. If a non-Sena headset doesn’t support a multipoint connection, it cannot use a phone call connection while using the Universal Intercom.

2. As for Sena headsets, the Universal Intercom affects the multipoint connection.

3. If non-Sena headset (already paired as Universal Intercom with Sena) is turned on, then the multipoint connection is automatically deactivated. And the non-Sena headset is automatically connected to Sena headset as a Universal Intercom. So you cannot use multipoint connection devices such as GPS, while a non-Sena headset is turned on.

4. Even though you disconnect the non-Sena headset as a Universal Intercom, it will not automatically restore the multipoint connection. To restore the multipoint connection, you should turn off the non-Sena headset first, then try to connect to multipoint device manually from the device screen or simply reboot the device so that it automatically connects to the Sena headset.

See what I mean? Not so cool, but nobody else can even do it at all. ;-)
In my opinion not worth the trouble.

A NEW SMH10 is $ 156.75 / A NEW SMH5 is $96.75 slightly shorter battery life, slightly shorter bike to bike range but at WORST much better than what you want to do
I’m just saying ;-)

Hope this information helps

Thank you Richard.
Think we will do old fashion communication with hands and tell my friend to purchase good stuff from you.

The VStrom Western Gathering Rally.
Previous rallies have been held in South Dakota, Montrose Colorado, Boise Idaho, the Dalles Oregon, Ventura California and Silverton Colorado.  This years main rally location will will be in Fortuna, California just a mile or so from the coast. There are many great motorcycle roads in this area. Come to Fortuna and experience the camaraderie, rides and fun. Good sites to find out more about Fortuna and Humbolt County are (they even have a motorcycling information page) and

Besides the information on this site there are also threads running on Stromtrooper and ADVRider. Visiting these sites maybe you'll find some to ride with to the meet or tips about roads on the way.

Saturday dinner is at Eel River Brewing Taproom & Grill.

6 pm Saturday July 11 it's time for dinner. The outside patio have been reserved for 20-30 people. Please let me know if you're planning to attend as we need to let the brewery know a head count by the end of June. For any groups over 8 they only do one bill, so we'll have to remember what we ordered and split it on-site.

The brewery is within walking distance from the camp ground and all hotel/motels listed on the lodging page. The address is 1777 Alamar Way, Fortuna, CA 95540
