From the desk of the Editor
|Well RKA is WAY over due for a Newsletter. Personally I have been on the road from May 22nd to July 31st and Kathy has flown in and out of events three or four times. |
What did I do on my Summer Vacation?
If you were not aware of the RKA schedule it is still up for you to see where we have been this summer. What a great time we had seeing old friends and new one also. I did seminars at most of the events on communications and it was a lot of fun.
BUT wait there’s more ;- ). We have two more events in September. The Beemer Bash in Quincy, and Horizons Unlimited in Mariposa.
Kathy and I are riding the motors to Quincy and taking the big rig to Mariposa and camping out. Horizons Unlimited is a fantastic event, not your normal rally, so check it out!
So much has happened in the last two months! So we will focus this Newsletter on SOME of the new stuff.
NEW .... We have introduced liners for the GOLDWING! check it out below
STAY TUNED! Not enough time or space. We will continue to report on exciting new technology and products in next month’s Newsletter
Also we will have photos and stories about the 2014 Summer Tour!.
Letters to the editor
What the heck are the instructions? , jejejeje

The new firmware as “Music Sharing” AND “Speed Dial” which I REALLY like!!!
If you have a passenger and want to share YOUR music, Navigation, Audio Book or whatever is coming into your headset it’s EASY!
While in intercom mode … Speaking with your passenger …. Hold the “jog” button down for a couple of seconds and you will hear a double beep and “Suzie” will say “Music Sharing”,
AT that point your passenger will be listening to YOUR sounds!
To start an intercom call just single tap the jog button and you are back in intercom mode, single tap out of intercom and you are sharing music again.
This feature is not meant for bike to bike BUT Kathy and I did do it at over ¼ mile ;-)
Enjoy the bike ride, and thanks for the installation tips!
I'll be doing a 1000 mile motorcycle trip from central Maine all the way around Nova Scotia with a couple stops and friends places. Attached is a screen shot of the rough plan. Super excited for it, especially with the new tank bag. I'll be sure to post some photos to your facebook page.
P.S. It's this kind of great customer service, and that spirit of "Made in America" that made me pick your company & product. You have an excellent reputation with the BMW crowd. I read lots of reviews and had a friend tell me your product is the only way to go. Keep up the great work.
It has Bluetooth
It has Bluetooth! But is it what you think ? You think it means it will pair to a bluetooth headset, right? Maybe WRONG!
Unfortunately Garmin doesn't design their newer Nuvi devices to work with Bluetooth headsets.
The Garmin Nuvi is designed to have a mobile phone paired with it which then allows the Nuvi to become the 'hands-free' speakerphone - it is not designed to be used with a Bluetooth headset.
Also does it even have a audio Jack?
The Garmin Zumo is designed to be used on a motorcycle and is capable of transmitting GPS instructions to a Bluetooth headset.
Below is a list of Garmin devices that can be paired with a Bluetooth headset:
- StreetPilot 2820
- nuvi 765T
- nuvi 775T
- nuvi 785T
- zumo 2201
- zumo 3501
- zumo 3902
- zumo 500
- zumo 550
- zumo 5903
- zumo 660
- zumo 665
- BMW zumo
- BMW Motorrad Navigator III
- BMW Motorrad Navigator IV
- BMW Motorrad Navigator V
- Harley-Davidson zumo
1The zumo 220 and zumo 350 do not have the ability to pair to a Bluetooth-enabled phone and will only pair to a Bluetooth headset or helmet.
2The zumo 390 must be paired with a headset or helmet and a phone.
3The zumo 590 can be paired with two wireless headsets at a time. Only one headset can receive navigation prompts and phone calls. Both headsets can be used for multimedia audio.

A lesson about Quality from Powerlet
RKA is proud to offer Powerlet products and I just got a note from my sales rep about why you should consider quality and name brand before you consider "Cheap".
CHEAP dual USB adapters VS Powerlet.
Theirs is a total of 2.1 amps (1 amp per USB) not capable of charging a tablet and only slow charges cell phones.
Ours is basically 3.2 Amps so you can charge a tablet and a cell phone at the same time!
Theirs is cheap plastic.
Ours is a military grade over mold that whisks heat away from the circuit board to ensure no overheating.
Theirs only has two “prongs” much like a cigarette lighter which creates a loose fit.
Ours has SIX to ensure a tight fit and maximum connection
If you bump theirs or turn it the wrong way it will lose power.
Ours is a secure fit so it will not lose power unless you remove it.
Ours also has a built in LED to ensure you know power is on.
|There is just too much happening for us to keep up with the current events in the industry at this time so stay tuned and we will reload next month with MORE about the important things in life!
Like the video we did on the GoPro Bluetooth pac above, they take time and effort and time.
There will be more of these videos and more on all that interests you all next month
The Sacramento River Delta is one of the most interesting places in Northern California.
A series of levees (usually) keep the river from flooding the fertile farmland and orchards.
Chinese people built the levees and the area is dotted with small towns with a lot of Chinese heritage.
One of my favorites is Locke, which boasts not one but two separate museums that are resurrected Chinese gambling halls.
This weekend the 675R found the Grand Island Mansion.
Built by Louis and Audrey Meyers in 1917, the mansion served as the hub for their orchards and a place
to entertain their friends from nearby San Francisco.
The four-story building is 24,000 square feet and has 58 rooms.
Really puts the "lux" in "luxurious", right?
For those of us who can't afford a home 1/10th this size, the good news is that they have brunch
It's all you can eat for $29.95.
And the food is terrific. And goes on forever:
. . . and the chocolate mousse . . .
I cut myself off at three.
Did I mention the bottomless mimosas?
Let me repeat this, because I think it's an important point:
The roads wind forever and there's very little traffic.
So little that it's possible to park a perfectly good 675R like this:
Crossing various parts of the river is done on steel drawbridges like the one above
and ferries that are only large enough for one or two cars.
You never know whom you'll meet on The Delta, including the entire Saturn Sky Owners Club:
Yeah, I had no idea they had a club, either.
Here's the map:
